MA (Oxon)
I had the privilege of studying for my BA in Modern Languages (French and German) at Balliol College, University of Oxford, under the late Dr Carol Clark at Balliol and Dr Ray Ockenden at Wadham. I graduated with first-class honours in 1986 and was awarded my MA in 2011.
Dip Trans IoLET
I had always enjoyed translation as a student, but when it came to embarking on a professional career I wanted to be sure my skills were up to scratch. I sat and passed the Institute of Linguists Educational Trust (IoLET) postgraduate Diploma in Translation from French to English in 2001. MA Legal Translation
In 2008, I decided it was time to gain a more specialised qualification in translation. I was one of the first cohort of students to embark on the new MA in Legal Translation at City University in London and graduated with distinction in 2011. As part of the course I took modules in principles and practice of legal translation, contract law, translation for litigation, property law, company and commercial law, European law and financial legal translation. My dissertation, A Comparative Analysis of Quality Frameworks for Certified Translation, examined the relative merits of European-style sworn translator systems and the self-certification process we have in the UK.
Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
As a Chartered Linguist, I undertake regular CPD to keep my subject knowledge and skills up to date. I have recently taken an online course on 'The Challenges of Global Health' and am currently studying 'International Women's Health and Human Rights'.
